Polycarbonate Roofing Sheets

Polycarbonate roofing sheets are incredibly strong, lightweight and extremely durable. Often used in a variety of different projects, one of their most popular uses is for greenhouses. This is because they are light and easy to handle, and their transparency allows for maximum light penetration.

Which types of roof can I use polycarbonate sheets on?

Outbuildings are not the only place to utilise polycarbonate roof panels. Such sheets can also be used on the roofs of industrial buildings, in small home skylights and, in some cases, as an alternative to glass. Lean-tos, porches, and sunhouses are also popular with this material. It is stocked in many types, including flat, corrugated, twinwall, and multiwall, each having their own unique benefits.

Flat

Polycarbonate flat sheets are most commonly used for replacement or secondary glazing and in other commercial areas such as bus shelters. They do not have the wavy construction that corrugated sheets have, so are best suited to windows and panes which require a clear, flat surface and water runoff isn’t a necessity. They are also UV protected on both sides and can be used both indoors and outdoors.

Twinwall

Twinwall polycarbonate roofing sheets consist of two pieces of sheet held together by ribs in the gap between them. This double layer allows for added durability, and means your roof has extra protection from the elements including debris and fallen branches in storms and high winds. You’ll find twinwall has increased insulation properties thanks to its secondary layer.

Multiwall

As the name suggests, multiwall polycarbonate sheets are made up of three or more layers of the material, and are by far the most practical. Thanks to their extra durability they are often used in industrial roofing and agricultural buildings. They are still incredibly lightweight, and allow light transmission to be softened, so you can still enjoy the natural daylight without it being too harsh.

Corrugated

Corrugated polycarbonate roof sheets are designed to allow for the drainage of water in wet and rainy climates. Their wavy and sometimes box profile design means water can easily run off them, especially when fitted on a pitched roof. Having these ridges also makes them stronger, as they are less likely to bend or crack when any pressure is put on them from debris or turbulent weather.
