VELUX GPL Roof Windows

VELUX roof windows made after 1968 each have a code to indicate their specifications and model. Each part of this code tells us different bits of information. At Roofing Superstore, we’ve made this easy for you when it comes to deciphering what each letter of your new VELUX GPL window means.

The first letter in the code, in this case, ‘G’, provides us with the product type. The ‘G’ in VELUX code terminology simply means that this product is a window.

The ‘P’ indicates the function of the window, in this case, it is top-hung. If it was a ‘G’, this would mean centre-pivot. Top-hung roof windows can be opened and closed via a handle at the bottom that pushes out, and are suitable for most pitched roofs between 15 and 55 degrees.

Lastly, the ‘L’ tells us that the material the window is made from is pine. This is most suited to standard loft spaces where high levels of moisture are not prevalent. If this was the case, opting for a ‘U’ VELUX window would be best, as these are constructed from polyurethane.
