Description

Parapet structures require a DPC directly under the coping, and the British Standards to BS5628: Part 3 qualifies the process in which it must be supported. This Type J closer satisfies these Standards as well as the NHBC performance standards, chapter 6.1, S4 (c) to (d).

Traditional cavity parapets are typically terminated with copings, under which a DPC is positioned and bedded. The DPC's width must be enough to marginally overhang the width of the parapet masonry. This Type J cavity support has been designed to support the DPC where it spans the cavity and has a standard length of 2400mm, 150mm width and 30mm height. It is suitable for cavities up to 100mm.

This is an uninsulated Cavity Support and Closer. A Cavity Support and Closer is available with an insulated infill of K-value 0.037W/m°C.

Can you use this product under aluminium capping for closing off parapet ?

Answer:

The function of the Type J is to support the DPC that is fitted beneath a coping and to prevent it from sagging into the cavity. If you are fitting an aluminium capping onto the parapet wall, it is likely no DPC will be required (so nothing to be supported). If you simply wishes to close/cap the cavity at the top of the wall before fitting the aluminium capping then the Type J could be used to achieve this, but may not be fully necessary.
