For a secure and precise wet fix installation, begin by carefully placing special short slates at the top course, ensuring an appropriate ridge cover. If opting for a socketed ridge, locate and position the overlapping sockets away from prevailing weather conditions. Creating a sturdy foundation involves meticulously bedding all ridges with a mortar mix of three parts sharp sand and one part Portland cement.
To enhance the bond between the ridge and the mortar, apply a proprietary bonding agent to the underside of the ridge. For additional reinforcement, adhere to the guidelines of BS 5534 Part 1, 2003 and the current codes of practice by using mechanical fixings when necessary. For unwavering stability, solid bed the end ridge tile. When dealing with hips, secure a suitable hip iron at the base of the hip rafter, align the bottom hip tile with the eaves for a seamless fit and finish with neat bedding and pointing.
