Find out moreThis Black Jack Roofing Felt Adhesive, available from Everbuild, comes in a 25-litre can and is a cold-applied, black oxidised bitumen-based adhesive specifically designed for felt roofing. It adheres well to various surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, metal, wood, and similar materials, and also serves as an effective cold-gritting solution.
For optimal results, follow the felt laying guidelines outlined in BS 8217-1994. The recommended application method for this Black Jack Adhesive is by brush or mop. Allow the adhesive to remain open for 15 to 30 minutes before placing the roofing felt onto the wet adhesive film. Exercise caution during the placement of the felt, ensuring each section is rubbed or rolled to maximise contact with the adhesive while preventing air inclusion. Apply weight to the felt until it is fully adhered. Whenever feasible, unroll the felt into the adhesive and use a lighter roller weighing around 25kg to ensure proper bonding.
When using lap cement, ensure that the edges have laps at least 75mm wide, and the laps at roll ends should measure 150mm. Apply a generous amount of Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive to the underside of the final edges and laps, and compact them thoroughly. If you're working on a timber roof structure, adhere to the standards of BS 8217-1994 by nailing down the first felt layer. Subsequently, use Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive to bond the second and third layers. For concrete or lightweight concrete screeds, prime porous surfaces with Black Jack Bitumen and Flashing Primer, ensuring it's fully dried before applying the initial layer of felt.
To address cold gritting needs, Black Jack Roof Felt Adhesive is suitable for roofs with a 10° slope. It is crucial to work on a clean, debris-free, and dry surface. While the felt adhesive can be applied to damp surfaces, avoid wet or waterlogged areas. Apply it evenly from the container in 20m² sections, preventing the film from puddling or becoming too thin. Immediately introduce chippings into the wet film, being cautious not to over-chip. Ensure that the chippings cover the film shoulder to shoulder. After 72 hours, brush away excess chippings from the completed surface, emphasizing the importance of not leaving the black film exposed.
